All About Moderation
As someone who has been living with RRMS for five years now, it’s important to me to still be able to do the things in life that I enjoy most. When it comes to managing my RRMS, I really try to make the most out of every day and do things that make me happy, like spending time with my family and friends. For the most part, I also tend to follow a pretty healthy diet and I maintain a healthy lifestyle. I feel good when I make the decision to exercise and eat a healthy snack instead of sweet treats. That said, I must admit the list of things that make me happy does also include sometimes treating myself and giving in to a cookie or two!
Sometimes I do feel a bit guilty about giving into my sweet temptation, but then I remind myself that it’s OK to indulge every once in a while if it makes me happy and doesn’t undo all of my hard work. To avoid overindulging and giving in to temptation too often, I think of the saying, “everything in moderation.” Remembering those three words helps me practice self-control and make better decisions for my general health. It’s up to me to choose exercising and eating healthy over giving in to eating cookies on the couch with my dog, Bruce.
Overall, I think life is really all about finding the right balance between doing what makes me happy while being mindful of my health and RRMS. Despite my diagnosis, I haven’t stopped living or doing what makes me happy, and I am glad I can still enjoy the little things in life. While I still indulge and enjoy from time to time, I’m happy to say I usually make the smart and healthy choices for my body.
I didn’t choose to have MS, but I’m glad I can choose between chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin (in moderation)!
